The $150 DIY Desk Space

Since we moved in, I've been using our kitchen's breakfast bar as a desk. It wasn't ideal and definitely not the most comfortable of spaces. And of course, it would end up with my MacBook, binders, notes, etc. being moved because we would have to clear off the space for dinner.

Drew offered to make me a desk in his office, but the designer in me knew that wouldn't look aesthetically pleasing. Plus, since he's and online college professor and property manager, he needs a much larger and quieter space than I do. I just want a place to work on volunteer projects, plan parties, blog, and browse Facebook and Pinterest. Truth.

Being the wonderful boyfriend that he is, he offered to build me whatever I wanted, wherever I wanted.

GAME ON.

I came up with the idea to create a wall desk of sorts... or at least that's what I'm calling it. It is perfect for this space! The stained wood top is 16 inches wide and 4 feet long, supported to the wall with industrial piping.
The wood, stain, and piping cost about $60.

Of course I wanted to glam it up a little bit too. I found the softest rug ever at Kohl's which was on sale for $35. I chose a cute teal chair from Target which was on sale for $55 at the time.

(Full disclosure: The chair isn't the comfiest thing in the world since it's not a desk chair, but it was in my price range and I only use it an hour a day, so it works great for me.)

Since I don't have any drawers to keep binders/notes, I repurposed large wire basket to hold the goods, which fits the design theme. You can find similar baskets at Michael's, Marshall's, or T.J. Maxx.

I added a small pencil/pen holder and candle on the top as functional decor. I wanted to keep it as simple as possible since this top very easily gets filled with papers, notes, and binders.

Yes, I organized and cleaned before these photos. You're welcome.

I'm so happy with how this turned out! It was low-budget, looks exactly how I imagined, and is so useful for my everyday life.

Honestly, as you probably guessed... I didn't do much labor to help create this, so I owe a huge thanks to Drew. He's the real MVP.

Knowing you as I do, you love clean lines and simplicity but with wow appeal. Love the teal chair (perfect accent to the taupe wall color) which also causes one to focus on the small teal frame on the wall, then one sees the rest of the wall hangings. Standing back and looking at the corner as a whole, it is very inviting (love the rug!). Nice table Drew, master woodworker, and Maria, who loves color and possibilities.

Thank you so much Martina! I wasn't sure about putting this underneath such an elaborate gallery wall but I really like how it came out. I think the desk is simple enough that it complements the wall! Thanks for following and your support!

I love the industrial look & the simplicity of this desk! I’m definitely duplicating this in my son’s room! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Heather! This would be so perfect in a boy's room and definitely something he could grow into and use for years! Let me know if you need any help! Thanks for following and for your support!
