"Stay at Home" Order issued for tenants of Bennett Properties

As cases of COVID-19 are increasing across North Carolina and in Pitt County, Bennett Properties is urging all tenants to follow orders from the City of Greenville. In an effort to slow the spread of this global pandemic, tenants should stay home and social distance from others.

A “Stay at Home” Order was issued on March 26, 2020 by Greenville Mayor P.J. Connelly. This mandates City residents to stay home and limit activity outside of their homes to only essential needs. Bennett Properties tenants live within Greenville City limits and must abide by this Order.

“We have to do what we can to stop the spread of COVID-19 and its impact in our community. That means staying home in order to keep ourselves and others safe,” said Andrew Bennett, owner of Bennett Properties. “As detailed in lease agreements, tenants must obey all federal, state, and local laws and this order falls under that clause.”

As detailed on the City of Greenville’s website, residents are able to leave their homes for the following:
  • Traveling to work if a job is with an essential business
  • Going to a grocery store or pharmacy
  • Visiting a health care professional
  • Picking up food from a restaurant
  • Caring for a friend or family member
  • Helping a friend or family member get supplies
  • Taking a walk or riding a bike
  • Walking pets or taking them to the veterinarian
  • Receiving deliveries

“In addition to this Order, I encourage everyone to also follow social distancing guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and practice proper hygiene and sanitation,” added Bennett. “This includes not gathering in groups larger than ten people.”

The "Stay at Home" Order is in place until, at least, April 10, 2020 and is being enforced by the Greenville Police Department. If it is not followed, City residents may face citations or misdemeanor charges.

New report finds the monthly cost of rent is increasing in the Greenville area

The cost of renting a house, apartment, condo, or townhome is on the rise nationwide and in North Carolina. These trends are also impacting the Greenville housing and rental market.

According to a new study from online marketplace and rental platform, Apartment List, the average cost of rent in the City of Greenville has increased 0.5% over the past month. Rents increased by 1.7% when comparing costs to July of last year.

The study goes on to calculate the median rent for a one-bedroom apartment in Greenville at $690 and $880 for a two-bedroom apartment in Greenville. Bennett Properties, a Greenville property investment and management company, reports that its rental costs fall in line with the city-wide average with various amenities and updates.

Bennett Properties owns six properties in Greenville. Affordability and accessibility are important values to owner, Andrew Bennett. He remembers the struggle of finding a place to live while attending East Carolina University for his master’s and doctoral programs.  During the years of 2007 to 2013, Bennett moved seven times in hopes of finding a nicer home that was affordable and close to campus. 

Bennett’s poor renting experience in the Greenville area inspired him to develop his own property management company to enhance the experience of local students and young professionals. All of Bennett Properties’ units are pet friendly without any size restrictions. Bennett understands the many benefits of pet ownership as he is a proud “dog-dad” to two mix-breed dogs. Bennett Properties is a community partner and supporter of local animal rescue efforts. Unfortunately, pets are often surrendered or abandoned by their owner if the animal is not welcome in a rental property. Bennett is pleased to offer his tenants the opportunity of living with their furry family member in a comfortable and safe environment.

A Free & Easy Money Saving Tactic

One of our New Year’s Resolutions is to watch our spending and get the most value for every dollar that is spend. Every penny saved really makes a difference, especially when it comes to renovating, decorating, and freshening homes and rental units. We want them to be updated and to look nice but we don’t have the funds right now to spend a fortune on them. That said, I want to take a moment to highlight (and thank) Ebates for putting cash back in our pockets.
